The AFLS

Can a parent score the AFLS?

Yes, the AFLS Guide provides parents with instructions for how to administer and score the assessment; in addition to how to interpret scores with regard to selecting tasks and teaching skills. It is our belief that parents are their child’s best teachers.

Is there a way to score the AFLS electronically?

Yes, templates of the scoring grids are available for download for each of the six (6) protocols.

Can I share my child’s AFLS with school?

Yes, we encourage the AFLS to be shared with school or agency providers who work with your learner. The AFLS is designed to promote collaboration with home, school, and other service providers.

What age range does the AFLS cover?

The AFLS is a criterion-referenced assessment that is designed to be used from early elementary through adulthood.

Can I share content of the AFLS with my child’s team?

Yes, the intent is for program team members to work collaboratively on the administration and task selection of the AFLS.

Who can conduct/administer the AFLS?

Anyone who is actively working with the individual can conduct/administer and score the AFLS. Special credentials are not necessary. It is designed to be used collaboratively across all stakeholders involved in a learner’s program. The AFLS Guide provides information on how to administer and score the assessment; along with section on selecting tasks, teaching, and task analyses examples.

I am interested in learning more about the benefits and how to use the AFLS. Does FLS provide training and workshops?

Yes, both authors provide training, workshops, and consultation at various locations both in the United States and internationally.

I need 1:1 in-home services for my child. Does FLS provide in-home services?

Services are not available directly from FLS; however, each of the authors does provide services to children in their local areas.

Can the AFLS be used as a curriculum guide?

Yes, the AFLS is meant to be a curriculum guide. Following the administration of the assessment program objectives (IEP, IPP, etc.) can be created directly from the AFLS.

Are social skills addressed in the AFLS; and if so, which AFLS protocol should I use?

Yes, social skills are addressed in the Community Participation Skills, School Skills, Vocational Skills, and Independent Living Skills Protocols.

I would like to teach travel skills; does the AFLS include this topic?

Yes, you can find skills that focus on various types of travel in the Community Participation Skills, Vocational Skills, and Independent Living Skills Protocols.

Does the AFLS cover assessing and teaching cooking skills?

Yes, cooking skills are covered in three protocols – Home Skills, Vocational Skills, and Independent Living Skills.

I need to teach hygiene skills; where would these be found in the AFLS?

Basic Skills and Independent Living Skills Protocols both include skills related to addressing hygiene.

What areas does the AFLS cover?

The AFLS includes protocols for Basic Living Skills, Home Skills, Community Participation Skills, School Skills, Vocational Skills, and Independent Living Skills.

How do I know which protocols I need?

There are a total of six (6) AFLS Protocols that cover various skill sets. Customers can mix and match protocols to create a set of protocols specific to a learner’s needs.

Does FLS provide discount pricing?

Yes, quantities discounts are as follows: 10%   10 – 19 books 20%   20 – 29 books 30%   30 or more For quantities of 50 or more, please contact us.

Is the AFLS available on-line, electronic, or as an app purchase?

The AFLS is currently available in book format only; however, the authors plan to develop an on-line platform soon.

Is the AFLS translated into other languages?

The AFLS is currently available only in English.

Can I buy just AFLS Protocols?

Yes, the AFLS protocols are sold individually; however, the AFLS Guide is a necessary companion tool with regard to how to use the AFLS efficiently and effectively. The Guide and Protocols can be purchased in cost-saving custom sets for specific areas of need.

Is the AFLS copyrighted? 

Yes, The AFLS is copyrighted. No parts of The AFLS can be reproduced in any language without the expressed, written consent from both authors.
